What's in a Trailer?

Function, size, weight capacity, shape, color, axles, lighting, hitch set up, material (aluminum vs. steel), flooring, cabinetry, cargo management, esthetics, and more.

Are you in need of a trailer for the following purpose:

  • Antique Cars
  • ATV / UTV
  • Boy Scout Troops
  • Church Groups
  • Contractors
  • Crafters
  • Dirt bikes
  • Handyman
  • Hobbyist
  • Landscapers
  • Motorcycle Enthusiast
  • Race Cars
  • Specialty Needs
  • Vendors

The purpose of your trailer will determine many features, such as the category of an open trailer vs an enclosed trailer, and the size, etc.

Size refers to the length, width and height. Not all trailers are made the same, not all needs are the same. Not all trucks can pull the same. Do you need to be able to walk around your cargo once inside your trailer or do you need to secure it to the wall / floor? Do you need to stack your race cars? These questions drive the size requirements.

Weight capacity is often the number one question out of our customers' mouths. Unfortunately, trailers are often overburdened by loads that are too heavy. Providing you with the correct trailer construction for the purpose will prolong the life of the trailer. Proper axle rating and number of axles go along with framing to help accommodate your needs.

Sometimes weight of the trailer is of the utmost importance in which case an aluminum trailer is most likely the answer. Aluminum is considerably lighter and more durable against the weather. Steel is more common and has its benefits.

Shapes vary depending on need and style of trailer. Common shapes include a 'radius' front (meaning just about a rectangle), "V" nosed meaning pointed at the front, flat front, dump trailers – short sides or high sided, deck over trailers, low profile, etc. Function also drives Door requirements and configuration. Typical door configurations include, rear ramp (drop down), rear barn (double doors), side ramp, walk through doors, escape doors, and combination gates (dump trailers).

Flooring is another important decision for the overall life, safety and satisfaction of your trailer. Options include wood, aluminum diamond plate, rubber, carpeted, spray-on(bedliner) material, vinyl and patterns. Floors can also have various types of cargo securing systems such as, tie down rings, e-track, and wheel chocks. Some customers even add in a spare tire well and/ or winch well. For specialized needs, the back portion of the floor can be angled for ease of entry and exit, called "beavertail".

Hitch set up must be appropriate for both the tow vehicle and trailer. We can outfit your car, SUV, minivan, or truck with the appropriate hitch. Available styles are bumper pull, gooseneck, weight distribution, and specialty hitches. Some customers even like to improve their hauling experience with rear air 'springs'.

To fancy up your dream trailer... lights, cabinets, bling! Many of our customers add Air Conditioning units, exterior scene lighting, awnings, cabinetry, entertainment/sound systems, and specialized color schemes.
